The THOMAS BETTS 54818 is a non-insulated, crimp-on butt splice terminal rated for 500 MCM wire. It provides a secure, inline electrical connection by joining two conductors end-to-end within a single copper barrel. The contact material is copper with a TiN (titanium nitride) plating for corrosion resistance and reliable conductivity. At 4.75 inches overall length and 1.11 inches overall diameter, this terminal is built for large-gauge power distribution work. Electricians and industrial maintenance technicians use this splice in high-ampacity feeder runs, service entrance conductors, and heavy equipment wiring where a permanent, code-compliant crimp joint is required.
This terminal is suited for commercial, industrial, and utility electrical work involving 500 MCM conductors. Typical applications include splicing large feeder cables in switchgear, motor control centers, and panel board circuits. The non-insulated design requires the installer to apply appropriate heat shrink or insulating tape over the finished crimp to meet code requirements for insulation coverage. Two wire entries allow one conductor per end for a straight inline butt connection.
Designed for use with 500 MCM copper conductors in crimp-style butt splice applications. Verify die set compatibility with the specific crimping tool manufacturer before installation.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and any applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit before stripping conductors or seating the terminal. Use a calibrated hydraulic or ratchet crimping tool with the correct die set for 500 MCM terminals to achieve a proper compression crimp. Because the barrel is non-insulated, cover the completed splice with listed heat shrink tubing or self-fusing insulating tape rated for the circuit voltage.
