The compression connection method creates a reliable mechanical and electrical bond, making it suitable for wet, damp, or concrete-encased raceway installations where a tighter seal is required than a standard set-screw fitting provides.
This coupling is used in commercial and residential electrical installations where EMT conduit must be joined at a junction. Its concrete-tight and water-resistant rating makes it well-suited for exposed outdoor runs, below-grade conduit work, and installations in concrete slabs or walls. Electricians specify compression fittings in these scenarios to maintain raceway integrity against moisture intrusion and physical displacement during concrete pours. Installation is performed by licensed electricians in accordance with NEC Article 358 governing EMT conduit systems. De-energize all circuits in the affected raceway before beginning work. Compression couplings are tightened using standard conduit wrenches or pliers to achieve a concrete-tight seal — avoid over-tightening, which can deform the compression ring. Ensure conduit ends are cleanly cut and deburred before seating them into the coupling body.
