The THOMAS BETTS 54170 is a non-insulated square ring terminal designed for heavy-duty electrical termination using a compression connection method. Built with a copper contact and titanium nitride (TiN) plating, this terminal provides reliable conductivity and corrosion resistance at the connection point. Rated for 4/0 AWG wire, it measures 2.5 inches in overall length and 1.03 inches in ring width, with a 0.14 inch contact thickness. The 1/2 inch stud size accommodates standard heavy-gauge lug applications. Electricians and electrical contractors install this terminal wherever large-conductor compression terminations are required.
This terminal is suited for commercial and industrial electrical installations where 4/0 AWG conductors are terminated to bus bars, switchgear, motor leads, or similar high-current connection points. The square ring profile provides positive seating against flat mounting surfaces, reducing the risk of the terminal rotating during tightening. The purple color coding assists with wire gauge identification during installation and inspection. Its non-insulated design is appropriate for use inside enclosures or conduit bodies where post-termination insulation is applied separately or not required by the application.
