The THOMAS BETTS 502 is a standard beam clamp designed for suspending threaded rod from structural steel flanges in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations. Constructed from malleable iron with an electro-galvanized finish, it accepts a 3/8-16 threaded rod and supports a rated load capacity of 1,300 pounds. The electro-galvanized coating provides corrosion resistance suitable for interior commercial and industrial environments. This clamp is installed by licensed electricians, plumbers, HVAC mechanics, and pipefitters during overhead support work on beam flanges up to 1 inch thick.
The 502 clamp is used in commercial and industrial construction where threaded rod hanger assemblies are attached to I-beams, wide-flange beams, or other structural steel members. Typical applications include supporting conduit runs, pipe hangers, duct support systems, and electrical raceways. It is well-suited for new construction and retrofit projects requiring a reliable, load-rated connection point on structural steel without drilling or welding.
Designed for use with 3/8-16 threaded rod in standard beam clamp hanger assemblies on structural steel flanges up to 1 inch thick in commercial and industrial support applications.
Installation is typically performed by licensed electricians, pipefitters, or HVAC mechanics in accordance with applicable NEC, IPC, or IFGC support-spacing requirements. Inspect the structural steel flange for proper thickness and confirm it falls within the 1-inch maximum before tightening the clamp. Never exceed the rated 1,300 lb load capacity. Always de-energize and isolate adjacent systems before working overhead in an energized area.
