The THOMAS BETTS 4972NM is a 90-degree liquidtight strain relief connector designed to secure and protect flexible cords and cables where they enter enclosures, conduit bodies, or fittings. It accepts cord diameters from 0.5 to 0.75 inches and threads into a 3/4-inch knockout or threaded entry. The body is constructed from black polyamide nylon 6.6 and features a rubber bushing that grips the cord to prevent pullout and restrict sharp bending at the entry point. At 1-13/32 inches in diameter, the compact profile fits into tighter panel and enclosure spaces where full-size fittings will not. Electricians and maintenance technicians use this fitting in both dry and wet location applications rated for liquidtight service.
This connector is suited for commercial and industrial electrical installations where cord and cable protection at enclosure entries is required. The 90-degree angle body is particularly useful when conduit or cord must transition parallel to a panel surface or when straight-entry clearance is limited. Typical applications include control panels, junction boxes, and equipment enclosures in wet, damp, or standard dry environments. The fitting is approved for use under UL listing E13938 and CSA certification 52391, making it appropriate for installations subject to these code requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation strain relief connector for 3/4-inch threaded knockouts in electrical enclosures, junction boxes, and control panels requiring liquidtight cord protection.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician following applicable NEC requirements for cord and cable protection at enclosure entries. De-energize the circuit and lock out the panel before beginning work. Thread the connector body into the 3/4-inch knockout opening, then feed the cord through the bushing and tighten the gland nut to secure strain relief. Do not overtighten the gland nut to the point of deforming the cord jacket.
