The THOMAS BETTS 4961NM is a 90-degree liquidtight strain relief connector designed to secure and protect electrical cords at entry points in conduit or enclosure fittings. The connector uses a nylon body with a rubber bushing to grip cords ranging from 0.31 to 0.56 inches in diameter, preventing severe bends and pullout failures at the cord-to-fitting junction. The 1/2-inch thread size fits standard knockout and conduit entries. The gland nut design restricts cable bending at the connection point, extending the service life of the cord and reducing stress on conductors. Approved by UL and CSA, it is rated for use in dry, wet, and ordinary locations including liquidtight applications.
This connector is suited for residential and light commercial electrical installations where cord protection is required at 90-degree entries into junction boxes, enclosures, and equipment panels. The reduced overall diameter allows installation in tight spaces where full-size connectors would not clear adjacent hardware. Electricians and maintenance technicians use this fitting in dry and wet location applications, including HVAC equipment panels, control enclosures, and motor connection boxes where liquidtight performance is required. Country of origin is the United States.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement strain relief connector for standard 1/2-inch threaded knockouts in electrical enclosures, junction boxes, and equipment panels where liquidtight cord protection is required.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician. De-energize the circuit and verify zero voltage with a meter before working on any enclosure or panel. Thread the connector body into the 1/2-inch knockout opening and tighten the gland nut by hand, then snug with pliers to seat the rubber bushing against the cord without over-tightening. Follow applicable NEC requirements for strain relief and liquidtight fittings in wet or damp locations.
