The THOMAS BETTS 31009 is a non-insulated square ring terminal designed for compression connections in heavy electrical wiring applications. Built with a copper contact, this terminal accepts wire sizes from 1 to 2/0 AWG and fits a 3/8-inch stud. It measures 1-15/16 inches in overall length and 13/16 inches in width, with a barrel thickness of 1/4 inch. The compression-style connection ensures a reliable, gas-tight crimp that resists vibration and pull-out. Electricians and electrical contractors install this terminal on large-gauge conductors in panel connections, grounding assemblies, and equipment terminations.
This square ring terminal is suited for commercial and industrial electrical installations where larger AWG conductors require secure, low-resistance terminations. The square ring geometry accommodates stud-mounted connections on bussing, transformers, disconnect blocks, and similar equipment. It is appropriate for use wherever a non-insulated copper lug with a 3/8-inch stud hole is specified. The sold-per-piece format makes it practical for single-point repairs as well as larger wiring jobs.

Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with NEC requirements. De-energize and lock out the circuit before terminating any conductor. Use a calibrated compression crimping tool rated for the conductor size and terminal barrel to achieve a proper crimp — do not use open-barrel or ratchet tools not rated for this terminal type. Inspect the finished crimp for uniform compression and confirm the ring seats flush against the stud mounting surface before torquing the fastener.
