The THOMAS BETTS 30H is a hex split bolt connector designed for joining and tapping copper conductors in electrical wiring applications. Built from copper alloy, this connector accommodates wire sizes from 2 AWG to 4/0 AWG and is rated for use with copper wire. The overall length measures 2-5/32 inches, with a head width of 1 inch and a base width of 1-1/16 inches. Electricians use this type of connector for service entrance taps, feeder splices, and branch circuit connections where a reliable, low-resistance mechanical bond is required between copper conductors.
This connector is suited for residential and commercial electrical installations where copper-to-copper conductor splicing or tapping is needed. Typical applications include panel feeder taps, meter base connections, and conductor splices in junction boxes or pull sections. The hex bolt design allows for consistent torque application using standard hex tooling, making it practical for both new construction and service work.
Designed for use with copper conductors in the 2 AWG to 4/0 AWG range. Not rated for aluminum wire. Suitable for use in standard electrical splice and tap applications consistent with this conductor size range.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with applicable NEC requirements. De-energize and lock out the circuit before making any connections. Use a properly sized hex wrench or socket to tighten the bolt to a consistent torque as specified by the applicable code or connector documentation. Verify conductor insulation is stripped to the correct length before seating the wire in the connector.
