The THOMAS BETTS 2H is a hex split bolt connector designed for making reliable tap and splice connections in copper wire installations. Constructed from copper alloy, this connector provides solid electrical contact and long-term corrosion resistance in branch circuit and service entrance work. The split bolt design accepts conductors ranging from 6 AWG to 2 AWG, allowing electricians to join a main run conductor to a tap conductor without cutting the main. Overall length is 1.25 inches, head width is 0.594 inches, and base width is 0.781 inches. It ships as a single unit and is suited for residential and light commercial electrical work.
This connector is used wherever copper-to-copper tap connections are required, including panelboard feeders, service entrance splices, meter base work, and junction box connections. The hex head design allows standard hex wrench or lineman pliers to apply consistent clamping torque across both conductors. Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC Article 110 and applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit at the panel before making any connections. Insert the main conductor through the bolt opening and position the tap conductor alongside it before tightening the hex nut to achieve firm mechanical and electrical contact. Do not over-torque the connector, as this can deform copper conductors and reduce contact integrity.
