The THOMAS BETTS 256 is a straight, non-insulated conduit connector designed for use with flexible metal conduit (FMC). Built from malleable iron, it uses a squeeze clamp connection method to secure the conduit end, providing a reliable mechanical grip without the need for threading. This fitting is rated for hazardous location applications, making it suitable for industrial and commercial environments where code-compliant conduit termination is required. Licensed electricians and electrical contractors install this type of fitting when terminating FMC runs at junction boxes, panel enclosures, or equipment knockouts. The 1-inch trade size accommodates standard 1-inch FMC.
This connector is used in both commercial and industrial electrical installations where FMC must be terminated at enclosures, control panels, or electrical boxes. Its hazardous location rating makes it appropriate for environments subject to NEC Article 501 or similar classification requirements. The straight connector profile suits direct entry into knockouts where no offset or angle is needed. The squeeze clamp design speeds up installation compared to screw-type connectors, reducing termination time on large conduit runs.
Designed for use with 1-inch trade size flexible metal conduit (FMC). Rated for hazardous location use. Verify knockout size and conduit type before installation.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit or enclosure before beginning conduit termination work. Insert the FMC end fully into the connector before tightening the squeeze clamp to ensure proper mechanical retention and grounding continuity. Do not use this fitting with liquidtight flexible metal conduit (LFMC) or rigid conduit types.
