The THOMAS BETTS 1946 is a malleable iron conduit nipple designed for use with rigid metal conduit and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) systems. It features a threaded connection type and ships in an insulated configuration, making it suitable for non-hazardous area installations. At a 1-1/2 inch trade size, this nipple provides a short, rigid transition or extension between conduit bodies, enclosures, and junction boxes. Electricians and electrical contractors install this fitting as part of a complete conduit assembly in commercial and industrial wiring systems where mechanical protection and code-compliant raceway continuity are required.
This conduit nipple is intended for non-hazardous area applications in both commercial and industrial settings. It is rated for use with rigid metal conduit and IMC conduit systems at the 1-1/2 inch trade size. The malleable iron construction provides durability in environments where the fitting may be subject to mechanical stress or vibration. It is well suited for panel terminations, equipment connections, and stub-up or stub-out installations where a short, threaded fitting is needed to maintain raceway integrity.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement fitting compatible with 1-1/2 inch trade size rigid metal conduit and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) systems in non-hazardous area installations.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. De-energize all circuits and lock out the panel before beginning conduit work. Apply listed thread sealant or thread tape as appropriate to threaded connections to ensure a secure, weathertight assembly. Do not over-tighten threaded fittings on malleable iron bodies, as excessive force can crack the casting.
