The THOMAS BETTS 18RA-38 is a partially insulated D-shaped ring terminal designed for crimp connections on copper conductors ranging from 22 to 16 AWG. The terminal body measures 1.24 inches in overall length and 0.54 inches in ring width, with a 3/8-inch stud hole for secure mechanical attachment. The contact is made from copper with a TiN (titanium nitride) plating, and the insulation sleeve is red vinyl, providing a visual indicator for the 22-to-16 AWG wire range. Electricians and low-voltage wiring technicians use this terminal wherever a reliable, vibration-resistant ring lug is required on a threaded stud or bolt.
This terminal is suited for residential, commercial, and light industrial electrical wiring applications where a permanent, low-resistance crimp connection to a ring-stud termination point is needed. Typical install scenarios include panel wiring, ground connections, control circuits, and instrumentation terminations. The red color coding aligns with industry-standard AWG range identification, making wire sorting and inspection faster on the job. Each package contains 100 terminals, sold in multiples of one package.
Designed as a standard crimp ring terminal for use with 22 to 16 AWG copper conductors on 3/8-inch threaded studs in residential, commercial, and light industrial electrical applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician or qualified technician in accordance with NEC requirements and applicable local codes. De-energize the circuit completely before terminating or inspecting ring terminals. Use a calibrated ratcheting crimp tool rated for insulated terminals in the 22-to-16 AWG range to achieve a proper crimp — do not use pliers or non-rated tools, as an improper crimp can result in a high-resistance joint or pull-out failure. Inspect the insulation sleeve after crimping to confirm it has not cracked or split.
