The THOMAS BETTS 17248-BD is a ring terminal designed for terminating large-gauge conductors at stud-mounted connection points. Rated for 4/0 AWG wire, this terminal accepts a 3/8 inch stud and provides a secure, low-resistance mechanical and electrical connection. Ring terminals of this type are crimped onto stripped copper conductors using the appropriate die set and crimping tool. They are a standard component in high-current electrical assemblies where a permanent, bolted lug connection is required. Licensed electricians and electrical contractors install these terminals in panel work, grounding assemblies, battery banks, and heavy equipment wiring.
This terminal is suited for high-ampacity wiring applications where 4/0 AWG conductors must be terminated to a 3/8 inch stud or bolt. Typical install scenarios include service entrance work, grounding electrode conductor terminations, inverter and battery connections, marine electrical systems, and industrial control panels. The 3/8 inch stud size accommodates standard bus bar and lug hardware found across residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-use ring terminal for 4/0 AWG conductors requiring a 3/8 inch stud termination in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with applicable NEC requirements. De-energize and lock out the circuit before stripping the conductor or installing the terminal. Use a calibrated compression crimping tool with the correct 4/0 AWG die to achieve a proper crimp — do not use open-barrel or plier-style crimping tools on compression lugs. Torque the stud fastener to the hardware manufacturer's specification after seating the terminal.
