The THOMAS BETTS 17222-BD is a heavy-duty ring terminal designed for terminating 4/0 AWG conductors to a 3/8-inch stud. Ring terminals of this type provide a secure, low-resistance mechanical and electrical connection between large-gauge wire and a threaded fastener or bus bar. This terminal is well suited for high-current applications in electrical panels, grounding assemblies, battery banks, and marine or industrial power distribution systems. Licensed electricians and electrical installers are the primary trade professionals working with lugs and terminals at this conductor size.
This terminal is rated for 4/0 AWG wire and accepts a 3/8-inch stud, making it appropriate for main service connections, large equipment grounding conductors, and feeder terminations where a bolted ring connection is required. It is commonly installed in commercial and industrial electrical systems, as well as heavy residential service applications where conductors at the 4/0 AWG range are specified.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-stock ring terminal for use with 4/0 AWG conductors and 3/8-inch threaded studs in electrical termination applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC requirements for conductor terminations and lug sizing. De-energize and lock out the circuit before terminating any conductor. Use a calibrated crimping tool rated for 4/0 AWG lugs to ensure a gas-tight crimp connection. Do not use open-barrel crimps or solder alone as the sole mechanical connection method for conductors at this gauge.
