The THOMAS BETTS 146SL is a steel, non-insulated conduit locknut designed to secure rigid metal conduit (RMC) and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) connections at enclosure knockouts and junction boxes. At 2-inch trade size with a threaded connection type, this locknut bites into the enclosure wall to create a firm mechanical bond between the conduit fitting and the box. It is rated for watertight area-of-application installations, making it appropriate for use in wet or damp locations where conduit integrity must be maintained. Licensed electricians and conduit installers reach for this hardware during new construction and retrofit panel and box work alike.
The 146SL fits standard 2-inch threaded conduit fittings used in commercial and industrial electrical installations. It is appropriate for use with rigid and IMC conduit systems entering metal enclosures, junction boxes, and panel cabinets. The threaded design allows hand-tightening followed by tool-tightening with a locknut wrench or strap wrench to achieve a secure, low-resistance mechanical connection at the box wall.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-use locknut for 2-inch rigid metal conduit and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) threaded fitting installations.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians in accordance with NEC Article 344 (rigid metal conduit) and Article 342 (intermediate metal conduit). De-energize the enclosure before opening or modifying conduit entries. Hand-thread the locknut onto the conduit fitting after it passes through the knockout, then tighten with a locknut wrench until the teeth seat firmly against the enclosure wall to ensure bonding continuity. Do not over-strike the locknut with a hammer and screwdriver in a way that deforms the enclosure wall or strips the threads.
