The THOMAS BETTS 1453 is a thermoplastic knockout plug designed to seal unused 1-inch knockout openings in electrical enclosures. It provides a clean, code-compliant closure for enclosure knockouts left open after conduit runs are planned but not used. The plug is rated for use with rigid metal conduit and IMC conduit applications. Licensed electricians and panel installers use this type of plug to maintain enclosure integrity, meet NEC requirements, and prevent debris or pests from entering the enclosure through open knockouts.
This knockout plug is suited for residential and commercial electrical installations wherever rigid conduit or IMC conduit enters a panel, junction box, or electrical enclosure. It fits standard 1-inch conduit knockouts and installs without tools in most cases. Typical applications include service panels, sub-panels, junction boxes, and disconnect enclosures where unused openings must be closed per NFPA 70 requirements.
Designed for use with rigid conduit and IMC conduit systems at 1-inch knockout openings in electrical enclosures.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician. De-energize the panel or enclosure before servicing any knockout opening. The plug snaps or presses into the knockout opening and should seat flush with the enclosure wall. Verify the installed plug meets local AHJ requirements under NFPA 70 for unused opening closures.
