The THOMAS BETTS 10H is a hex split bolt connector designed for making reliable tap and splice connections in copper wire installations. Constructed from copper alloy, this connector accommodates wire sizes ranging from 14 AWG through 1/0 AWG. The hex bolt design allows even clamping pressure across the conductor, reducing resistance at the joint. It measures 1-19/32 inches overall length, with a 3/4-inch head width and a 15/16-inch base width. Licensed electricians and apprentices rely on this type of fitting for service entrance work, panel feeders, and general branch-circuit splicing where a permanent, low-resistance mechanical connection is required.
This connector is suited for residential and light commercial electrical work where copper-to-copper tap connections are made inside junction boxes, pull boxes, or service equipment enclosures. The split bolt configuration accepts both the run wire and the tap wire simultaneously, making it a standard choice for splicing conductors without cutting the through-run. Proper insulation wrap with self-fusing or vinyl tape is applied after installation per applicable codes.
Designed for use with copper conductors in the 14 AWG to 1/0 AWG range. Not rated for aluminum wire. Suitable for use in standard electrical enclosures where copper-to-copper tap or splice connections are required.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). De-energize and lock out the circuit before beginning any work. Seat both the run and tap conductors fully in the split bolt channel before tightening the hex nut to ensure full contact across the conductor surfaces. After tightening, wrap the connector completely with listed electrical tape or self-fusing insulating tape to restore insulation integrity to the minimum required voltage rating.
