The THHNCU-GENERIC thhn8strblk2500r is a 8 AWG stranded copper THHN wire supplied on a 2500-foot reel with black PVC insulation and a nylon jacket. THHN is a thermoplastic high-heat-resistant nylon-coated building wire rated for 600 volts and 90 degrees C in both dry and wet environments. The 19-strand configuration provides greater flexibility compared to solid conductors, making it easier to pull through conduit on longer runs. Licensed electricians install this wire in commercial and residential branch circuit wiring, feeder runs, and panel connections where a durable, code-compliant conductor is required.
This wire is suited for use in conduit installations in residential, commercial, and light industrial settings. Its 8 AWG size carries up to 40 amps at 60 degrees C, 50 amps at 75 degrees C, or 55 amps at 90 degrees C, making it a common choice for branch circuits serving HVAC equipment, subpanels, and similar loads. The 2500-foot reel format reduces the number of splices needed on large jobs and is practical for contractors stocking a service vehicle or supply room.
Designed as a standard THHN building wire for use in conduit or raceway installations per NEC requirements for 8 AWG copper branch circuit and feeder wiring.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit before making any connections. THHN wire must be installed in conduit or a recognized raceway — it is not rated for direct burial or open-air use without a conduit system. Verify ampacity derating factors when bundling multiple conductors in a single conduit, as required by NEC ampacity tables.
