The THHNCU-GENERIC thhn8strblk1000k is an 8 AWG stranded copper THHN building wire rated at 600 volts and 90 degrees C in dry locations. The conductor is made up of 19 individual copper strands, giving it flexibility during pulling and routing through conduit. Black PVC insulation with a nylon jacket meets THHN specifications for use in raceway and conduit wiring applications. Ampacity is rated at 40 amps at 60 degrees C, 50 amps at 75 degrees C, and 55 amps at 90 degrees C. Electricians and electrical contractors use this wire for branch circuit and feeder runs in commercial, industrial, and residential installations. The 1000-foot reel minimizes splicing on longer runs.
This wire is suited for use in conduit, wireways, and cable trays where THHN-rated wire is specified. It is commonly pulled for feeder circuits, sub-panel feeds, motor branch circuits, and general-purpose branch wiring in buildings. The black insulation color is standard for phase conductors in both single-phase and three-phase systems. At 8 AWG, this wire is a common choice for 40-amp to 50-amp circuit applications such as dryer circuits, HVAC equipment feeds, and small sub-panel feeds. Installations must comply with applicable NEC articles governing conductor ampacity, conduit fill, and termination ratings.
Designed for use in conduit, wireways, and cable trays wherever THHN-rated 8 AWG copper building wire is specified per NEC requirements.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and any applicable local amendments. De-energize and lock out the circuit before making terminations. Verify that all termination lugs, breakers, and connectors are rated for the conductor size and the temperature rating being applied. Conduit fill must be calculated per NEC Table 1 of Chapter 9 to avoid exceeding allowable fill percentages.
