The THHNCU-GENERIC thhn500mcmstrredmr is a 500 kcmil stranded copper THHN building wire with red PVC insulation and a nylon jacket, rated for 600 volts and 90 degrees C in dry conditions. Designed for high-ampacity branch circuit and feeder applications, this wire carries up to 380 amps at 75 degrees C or 350 amps at 90 degrees C, making it suitable for large commercial and industrial power distribution runs. The 37-strand configuration provides flexibility during pull-in, and the nylon jacket resists oil, gasoline, and mechanical abrasion. Licensed electricians install this wire in conduit as required by NEC for conductors of this size.
This wire is used in commercial, industrial, and large residential applications where high-current feeders or service entrance conductors are required. Typical installations include panel feeders, switchgear connections, motor circuits, and large HVAC equipment feeds. The red insulation color aids in phase identification and circuit tracing during installation and service. It is sold cut to length, which suits job-site specific pulls where standard spool lengths are impractical.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-purpose THHN building wire suitable for use in dry conduit installations on 600-volt systems where 500 kcmil copper conductors are specified.
Installation of 500 kcmil conductors must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). Wire of this gauge requires conduit and is not rated for direct burial or wet locations in THHN service. Use appropriate wire-pulling lubricant and a mechanical puller rated for large-gauge conductors to avoid jacket damage during installation. Always de-energize and lock out the circuit or panel before terminating conductors.
