The THERMWELL V83/3M is a heavy-duty indoor window insulation film kit designed to reduce heat loss through residential windows during cold weather. The kit measures 62 inches by 126 inches and is made from 1.5 mil puncture-resistant film that is rated twice as strong as standard insulation film. When cut to size, the single roll covers up to three standard windows. The kit includes extra-wide tape for a more secure perimeter seal. Installed correctly, it can increase the effective R-value of a window assembly by up to 90 percent. HVAC technicians, weatherization contractors, and knowledgeable homeowners typically install this product as part of a seasonal energy conservation measure.
The V83/3M is intended for interior residential applications on standard single- or double-hung windows, sliding windows, and similar framed openings. It is particularly suited for older homes with single-pane glazing or poorly sealed frames where air infiltration and conductive heat loss are significant. The film is applied to the interior face of the window frame using the included tape, creating a dead-air buffer zone between the film and the glass that reduces both conduction and drafts. This product is a seasonal solution commonly installed in late fall and removed in spring.
Designed for use with standard residential interior window frames. When cut, the 62 x 126 inch sheet accommodates up to three standard window openings.
Installation does not require licensed trade credentials, but is commonly performed by weatherization contractors or HVAC technicians as part of a broader energy audit and air-sealing scope. Clean and dry the window frame thoroughly before applying the included tape to ensure proper adhesion. The film is stretched taut across the taped frame and heat-shrunk using a hair dryer to remove wrinkles and form a tight seal. Do not apply over damaged or peeling frame surfaces, as tape adhesion will be compromised.
