The THERMWELL V445H is a self-adhesive closed-cell polyvinyl chloride foam weatherstrip tape designed to seal gaps and eliminate air and moisture infiltration around doors, windows, and other building envelope penetrations. The tape measures 3/8 inch wide by 1/2 inch thick and comes in a 10-foot roll. Its grey closed-cell PVC foam construction resists water absorption and compresses to form a durable airtight seal. The pressure-sensitive adhesive backing allows for tool-free application on clean, dry surfaces. HVAC technicians, plumbers, and general contractors reach for this tape when sealing gaps that compromise thermal or moisture performance.
The V445H is suited for residential and light commercial applications where air sealing and weatherproofing are required. Common install scenarios include sealing around door frames, window stops, attic access hatches, pipe penetrations, and equipment access panels. The closed-cell foam holds its shape under compression, making it effective in locations where the gap width is consistent. The grey color blends with painted metal and standard door frame finishes.
Designed as a general-purpose weatherstrip replacement tape compatible with standard residential and light commercial door and window frames where closed-cell foam tape with a 3/8 inch by 1/2 inch cross-section is specified.
Surface preparation is critical — clean the substrate with a dry cloth or isopropyl alcohol and allow it to dry fully before applying the tape. Power down or shut off any HVAC equipment before sealing around air handler access panels or duct penetrations. Press the foam firmly along the full length of the seal to ensure full adhesive contact. Follow local building codes and manufacturer guidelines for air-sealing applications in conditioned spaces.
