The THERMO MANUFACTURING 16050 is a fire-resistant floor pan designed for use as a sub-floor air barrier in residential forced-air heating and cooling systems. Measuring 16 inches by 47.5 inches, this pan fits standard joist bays and creates a plenum air seal when stapled as directed, helping maintain system efficiency and reducing conditioned air loss into the floor cavity. It carries a Class 1 Fire Rating with a Flame Spread Index of 5 and a Smoke Index of 15, meeting UL 723 and ETL standards. Licensed HVAC contractors and insulation professionals are the typical installers for this product.
The 16050 is suited for residential HVAC applications where a pre-formed floor pan is needed to enclose a joist-bay plenum. The pan is pre-formed to fit both regular joists and I-joists, eliminating field fabrication. Its built-in air space provides a positive R-value, and moisture treatment helps resist dampness in crawl space and below-grade installations. The product is manufactured from recycled materials and is made in the USA.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation floor pan for residential forced-air HVAC systems using joist-bay plenums in standard and I-joist floor assemblies.
Installation is typically performed by licensed HVAC contractors or mechanical insulation professionals. Shut down the air-handling system before beginning work in the plenum area. Staple the pan as directed by the manufacturer to achieve a proper plenum air seal — improper fastening can result in air bypass and reduced system efficiency. Follow local mechanical codes and IFGC requirements for plenum materials when determining suitability for a given application.
