The TECHNIKS ECE-330AL is a magnetic indicator base designed to hold dial indicators, test indicators, and similar precision measuring instruments securely during setup and inspection work. The base uses a powerful on/off magnetic chuck that delivers 220 pounds of pull force, locking the unit firmly to ferrous machine tables, surface plates, and workpiece fixtures. A fine adjustment arm with 16.75 inches of reach allows the technician to position the indicator tip precisely without disturbing the magnetic hold. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and quality-control personnel use this type of base for runout checks, flatness verification, and part alignment tasks.
This indicator base is suited for machine shop environments, toolrooms, and production floor inspection stations. It mounts to any clean ferrous surface and supports standard indicator shanks and holders. The fine adjustment arm makes it practical for close-tolerance work where coarse repositioning is not acceptable. It is commonly used alongside surface plates, milling machine tables, lathe beds, and granite inspection tables.
Designed as a universal-style magnetic indicator base compatible with standard dial indicator and test indicator holders used on ferrous machine tables, surface plates, and similar flat ferrous workholding surfaces.
Placement should be on a clean, flat ferrous surface free of chips, coolant film, or surface scale that would reduce magnetic holding force. Engage the magnetic switch only after positioning the base to prevent uncontrolled movement of the arm and indicator. A licensed machinist or toolroom technician typically performs indicator base setups; no special codes govern bench-level metrology tools, but shop safety protocols for machinery lockout should be followed when mounting on powered equipment. Never attempt to use this base on non-ferrous materials such as aluminum, cast aluminum, or granite without an appropriate adapter plate.
