The TECHNIKS 05342 is an ER16 tap collet designed to hold hand taps in CNC machining centers and tapping machines. The collet accepts a 6 mm shank diameter and features a 4.5 mm square drive bore to engage the tap square, transmitting torque without slippage. Compatible with M5, M6, and M8 hand taps, the 05342 mounts in any standard ER16 collet chuck. Machinists and toolroom technicians rely on this style of collet for rigid, repeatable tap holding in light-to-medium duty tapping operations.
This collet is suited for hand tapping applications in vertical machining centers, knee mills, drill presses with tapping attachments, and dedicated tapping machines. It is a common choice for shops producing threaded holes in aluminum, steel, and similar materials where M5 through M8 thread sizes are required. The ER16 series is widely used in production and job-shop environments for its compact footprint and broad availability of compatible chucks.
Designed for use with M5, M6, and M8 hand taps in any machine spindle fitted with a standard ER16 collet chuck.
Installation is performed by toolroom machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing collets. Seat the collet fully into the ER16 chuck nut before threading onto the chuck body, and torque the nut with the appropriate ER spanner wrench - do not use pliers or pipe wrenches on the nut. Verify the tap shank and square are clean and free of chips before clamping.
