The TB WOODS TB-9J is a one-piece solid EPDM sleeve coupling insert designed to join two compatible coupling flanges and complete a sleeve coupling assembly. Rated for a maximum speed of 3,750 RPM and a torque capacity of 2,340 in-lb, this insert delivers reliable power transmission in demanding industrial drive applications. The EPDM elastomer construction provides a 4-way flexing action that absorbs shock loads, accommodates angular and parallel shaft misalignment, and dampens vibration. It measures 3 inches wide with a 6 inch outside diameter and weighs 1.46 pounds. Licensed mechanical and millwright technicians are the primary installers in industrial maintenance settings.
The TB-9J is suited for use in a wide range of rotating equipment including blowers, compressors, conveyors, mixers, motors, and pumps. Its angular misalignment tolerance of 1 degree and parallel misalignment tolerance of 0.025 inches make it appropriate for applications where minor shaft alignment deviation is present. The EPDM insert is chemical resistant and oil resistant, broadening its suitability across process and manufacturing environments. Operating temperature range spans from -30 degrees F to 275 degrees F, supporting both cold-climate startups and elevated-temperature process equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for size 9 sleeve coupling systems using compatible JE, JN, or H series flanges. Verify flange series and coupling size before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified millwright or mechanical technician. Disconnect and lock out all power to the drive system before removing or installing the coupling insert. Ensure both shafts are properly aligned within the specified misalignment tolerances before final assembly. Inspect coupling flanges for wear or damage and replace as needed before seating the new insert.
