The TB WOODS TB-8JES is a Size 8 Sure-Flex sleeve coupling insert made from EPDM rubber, designed to transmit torque between coupled shafts while absorbing shock loads, vibration, and misalignment. The one-piece split construction allows installation without moving connected equipment. Rated to 1,475 in-lb maximum torque and 4,500 RPM maximum speed, this insert handles angular misalignment up to 1 degree and parallel misalignment up to 0.02 inches. The JES flange type delivers four-way flexing action, making it a reliable flexible element for demanding power transmission applications. Licensed HVAC and mechanical contractors as well as industrial maintenance technicians install this type of coupling insert.
This coupling insert is suited for a wide range of industrial and commercial power transmission setups. Typical applications include blowers, compressors, conveyors, mixers, motors, and pumps. It operates across a temperature range of -30 degrees F to 275 degrees F, giving it usability in both cold-storage environments and high-heat mechanical rooms. The EPDM material provides chemical resistance and oil resistance, making it appropriate for environments where fluid exposure is a concern. The horsepower rating scales with shaft speed: 2.34 hp at 100 RPM, 28.08 hp at 1,200 RPM, 42.13 hp at 1,800 RPM, and 84.25 hp at 3,600 RPM.
Designed as a Size 8 JES-flange replacement sleeve coupling insert for Sure-Flex style couplings using the TB WOODS 8JES body style designation. Compatible with standard Size 8 Sure-Flex coupling flanges accepting a JES-profile insert.
Installation is typically performed by millwrights, industrial mechanics, or qualified maintenance technicians. Disconnect and lock out all power to the drive system before removing or installing the coupling insert. The one-piece split design allows the insert to be installed radially without shaft separation, but verify flange gap and alignment per the coupling manufacturer guidelines before returning the drive to service. Inspect mating flanges for wear or damage before installing a new insert.
