The SUPERIOR ESSEX 6T-246-2A is a Cat6 riser-rated (CMR), screened twisted-pair (SCTP) data cable built for structured wiring installations in commercial and residential buildings. Constructed with four 23 AWG pairs and an overall foil screen, it delivers the signal integrity and interference rejection required by Cat6 standards. The cable ships in a 1,000-foot pull box, making it a practical choice for rough-in work where large runs are pulled through vertical shafts, conduit, or plenum-adjacent pathways. Low-voltage cabling contractors and communications technicians are the primary installers.
This cable is suited for horizontal and vertical backbone runs in office buildings, multi-unit residential projects, and light commercial environments. The CMR riser rating qualifies it for installation in vertical shaft spaces between floors where fire spread through the cable pathway is a code concern. The SCTP construction addresses environments with moderate electromagnetic interference, such as areas near electrical panels, mechanical rooms, or industrial equipment. The blue jacket aids in color-coded cable management schemes common in structured cabling projects.
Designed as an OEM-style structured cabling solution compatible with standard Cat6 keystone jacks, patch panels, and modulation hardware meeting TIA-568 Category 6 termination specifications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed low-voltage cabling contractor or communications technician in accordance with ANSI/TIA-568 structured cabling standards and applicable local codes. De-energize any adjacent circuits before pulling cable through shared pathways, and maintain minimum bend radius requirements to preserve cable geometry and signal performance. Avoid running the cable parallel and in close proximity to high-voltage conductors for extended distances. The CMR riser rating does not qualify this cable as a plenum-rated substitute where NFPA 90A plenum installations are required.
