The SUPERIOR ESSEX 6S-220-4A is a shielded CAT6A riser-rated (CMR) data cable engineered for structured cabling installations in commercial and residential buildings. Built with 4-pair, 23 AWG solid copper conductors, this cable meets the augmented Category 6A performance standard, supporting 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) at frequencies up to 500 MHz. The shielded twisted pair (STP) construction reduces alien crosstalk and EMI interference, making it well suited for high-density cable runs and environments with significant electrical noise. It ships on a 1,000-foot reel, sized for floor-to-floor or backbone runs through building riser pathways.
This cable is designed for vertical riser installations between floors in multi-story buildings where a UL CMR (Communications Multipurpose Cable, Riser) fire rating is required by code. Typical applications include horizontal backbone segments, telecommunications rooms, and data center structured cabling systems where 10GbE performance and shielding are specified. The 1,000-foot reel format is standard for contractors pulling cable through conduit or open riser shafts during new construction or retrofit projects.
Designed as an OEM-style structured cabling solution compatible with CAT6A-rated patch panels, keystones, and modular jacks that accept 23 AWG shielded twisted pair cable in riser-rated installations.
Installation should be performed by a qualified low-voltage cabling technician in accordance with ANSI/TIA-568 structured cabling standards and applicable local building codes. Shielded cable requires proper grounding at termination points to realize full EMI rejection benefits — verify that patch panels and jacks are rated for shielded CAT6A termination. Maintain minimum bend radius during pulls to avoid conductor damage, and do not exceed the cable's rated pulling tension. Riser installations must comply with applicable fire and building codes governing vertical cable routing.
