The SUPERIOR 5255 is a 1-1/2 inch tub drain extractor designed for removing stubborn or seized tub drain fittings that cannot be removed with conventional tools. The tool uses a helical knurl pattern that bites into the inside of the drain body as torque is applied. The grip increases with additional torque, which prevents slipping during extraction. It is driven by a standard 1/2 inch ratchet with an extension or a wrench, making it compatible with drive tools already on most service trucks. Built from hardened steel with a gold plate finish, the 5255 is suited for use by licensed plumbers and experienced service techs on residential bathroom fixtures.
The SUPERIOR 5255 is used in residential plumbing service and remodel work where tub drain replacements are required. It is most commonly applied when a drain crossbar is corroded, stripped, or otherwise unusable with a standard drain wrench or removal tool. The 1/2 inch square drive interface allows the tech to use a ratchet, breaker bar, or torque wrench to maximize extraction force without damaging the surrounding tub surface.
Designed for removal of standard 1-1/2 inch tub drain fittings in residential bathtub applications.
Installation and removal of tub drains should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes referencing the IPC. Shut off the water supply and ensure the drain area is dry before beginning extraction. Insert the tool fully into the drain body before applying torque to allow the helical knurl to seat properly. Avoid using excessive impact force, which can crack or chip porcelain and acrylic tub surfaces surrounding the drain.
