The SUMITOMO U104413 is a right-hand external indexable grooving toolholder designed for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built in the GND series with a GNDL toolholder style, it accepts GCML, GCMN, and GCMR inserts secured by a screw-clamp holding method. The toolholder features a maximum depth of cut of 0.75 inches (19.05 mm) and a minimum groove width of 0.0787 inches (2.00 mm), making it well suited for tight-tolerance external groove profiles. The steel construction provides rigidity under interrupted cuts and continuous grooving passes. Overall length is 6 inches with a 1 inch by 1 inch square shank.
This toolholder is intended for external non-face grooving applications in production and job-shop turning environments. It is typically installed on CNC lathes, turret lathes, and manual turning centers where precise groove width control is required. The right-hand cutting direction suits standard forward-running spindle setups. Machinists and toolroom technicians working with steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar machinable materials will find this holder applicable across a range of workpiece diameters. The multi-use designation indicates compatibility with various GCML, GCMN, and GCMR insert geometries and grades for different material groups.
Accepts GCML, GCMN, and GCMR inserts. Toolholder style is GNDL within the GND series. Designed for right-hand cutting direction on external non-face grooving setups.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped before changing toolholders or inserts. Secure the shank firmly in the turret or tool block per the machine builder specifications before running. Verify insert seating and screw torque using the insert manufacturer guidelines before taking a cut. Coolant-through is not supported on this holder, so external coolant delivery should be directed appropriately at the cutting zone.
