The SUMITOMO U103877 is a CNGA433 ceramic turning insert in grade SN2000K, designed for high-speed material removal in demanding machining operations. It features an 80-degree diamond shape with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 3/64-inch (0.0469-inch) corner radius. The insert is manufactured from ceramic material and conforms to both ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, giving machinists a reliable, standardized tooling option. Insert thickness is 3/16 inches (0.1875 inches) and insert length is 0.5077 inches. It is held in place using a clamp and pin method, suited to rigid toolholders designed for negative-rake CNGA-style inserts.
This insert is optimized for turning cast iron workpieces, where ceramic grades excel due to their hardness and thermal resistance at elevated cutting speeds. The SN2000K grade and chip breaker style A make this insert well suited to continuous and semi-interrupted cuts in gray cast iron, ductile iron, and similar ferrous materials. It is typically used in CNC turning centers and manual lathes by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in production or job-shop environments. The ISO code for this insert is CNGA120412.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for CNGA433-style negative-rake ceramic turning insert seats. ISO equivalent is CNGA120412. Compatible with CNGA-style toolholders using clamp and pin retention. Suitable for primary use on cast iron workpieces (ISO material group K).
Ceramic turning inserts are installed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or indexing any insert. Use the correct torque driver for the clamp screw per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Ceramic inserts are brittle and should not be subjected to heavy interrupted cuts or thermal shock from cutting fluids applied intermittently at high temperatures.
