The SUMITOMO U103713 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding production environments. It features a 19/64 inch (0.2969 inch decimal) diameter with a 135-degree split point and a dual coating of TiAlCr and TiSi, which extends tool life and improves heat resistance at elevated cutting speeds. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 5/16 inch in diameter with a shank length of 2.126 inches. Overall length is 4.6457 inches. This drill is part of the MDW-HGS series and is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals in CNC and manual drilling operations.
The U103713 is rated for cutting cast iron, stainless steel, and steel, covering ISO material codes K, M, P, and S. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and tapered web configuration support chip evacuation in deeper hole applications. Coolant-through capability allows internal coolant delivery, making this drill well suited for high-feed operations on machining centers where tool life and hole quality are critical. It is a strong fit for production shops, job shops, and aerospace or general metal fabrication environments requiring consistent hole tolerances.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and drilling machines capable of accepting a straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpiece materials (ISO material codes K, M, P, S) as part of the SUMITOMO MDW-HGS series.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolroom practices. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank in a collet chuck or drill chuck rated for the 5/16 inch shank diameter and verify runout before cutting. If using coolant-through capability, confirm that the machine spindle and toolholder are configured to supply internal coolant at the appropriate pressure. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use, as carbide tools are susceptible to breakage if run in a compromised condition.
