The SUMITOMO U103703 is a jobber-length, solid carbide drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding industrial and machining applications. It carries a 135-degree drill point angle for accurate self-centering entry and reduced thrust force. The bit features a dual coating of TiAlCr and TiSi, which improves heat resistance and wear life at elevated cutting speeds. At 4.2913 inches overall length with a straight-cylindrical shank, it fits standard drill chucks and collet holders without adapters. The tapered web configuration adds rigidity while keeping chip evacuation efficient. Licensed machinists and tooling technicians are the primary installers of this bit in production and job-shop environments.
This drill bit is built for cutting cast iron, stainless steel, and steel, covering workpiece material codes K, M, P, and S. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports deeper hole applications typical of production drilling in steel fabrication, mold making, and precision machining. It ships as a single unit and is suited for CNC machining centers and drill presses equipped with coolant-through capability, which this bit supports directly through its internal coolant channel design.
Designed for use in machining applications involving cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces; compatible with coolant-through spindle systems and standard straight-shank collet or chuck holders sized for a 0.2812-inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before mounting or changing tooling, power down and lock out the spindle drive per machine-specific lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully and evenly in the collet or chuck, and verify runout before beginning a cut. When using the coolant-through feature, confirm that coolant pressure and flow rate are within the machine spindle specifications to avoid thermal shock to the carbide.
