The SUMITOMO U103691 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding production environments. Built from solid carbide and coated with TiAlCr and TiSi, it delivers extended tool life and thermal resistance at elevated cutting speeds. The bit measures 0.213 inches in diameter (wire size 3) with a 135-degree drill point angle that reduces thrust and improves self-centering on entry. The overall length is 3.937 inches with a straight-cylindrical shank. With a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and coolant-through capability, this bit is suited for use in CNC machining centers and other high-feed drilling operations. Machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users.
This drill bit is built for cutting cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon and alloy steels, corresponding to material codes K, M, P, and S in the ISO workpiece classification system. It is well suited to production drilling applications where tool life, hole quality, and dimensional consistency are priorities. The tapered web configuration reduces cutting resistance and supports chip evacuation in deep-hole drilling cycles. Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine powered down and in a locked-out, tagged-out state per applicable safety procedures. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the collet or drill chuck and verify concentricity before cutting. When using coolant-through capability, confirm the toolholder and spindle support internal coolant delivery before activating the coolant circuit. Do not exceed the manufacturer-rated feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material being drilled.
