The SUMITOMO U103684 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit engineered for demanding metal-cutting applications. It carries a dual TiAlCr and TiSi coating applied over the carbide substrate, which extends tool life when cutting abrasive and high-strength materials. The bit measures 11/64 inches (0.1719 inches) in diameter with a 135-degree split-point tip, an overall length of 3.8583 inches, and a flute length of 1.5748 inches. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 3/16 inches (0.1875 inches) in diameter. This drill is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals operating CNC or manual drilling equipment in production and job-shop environments.
The U103684 belongs to the MDW-HGS series and is rated for cutting cast iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, and other ferrous workpieces classified under material codes K, M, P, and S. Its 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports deeper hole depths relative to diameter while maintaining chip evacuation. The through-coolant capability makes it suitable for high-speed machining centers where coolant is delivered directly to the cutting zone, reducing heat buildup and improving chip clearance in production drilling of steel and stainless components.
Designed for use with cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Part of the Sumitomo MDW-HGS series, covering the drill diameter range of 0.1500 to 0.2000 inches. Fits standard straight-shank drill chucks and ER collets accepting a 3/16-inch shank.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine in a full-stop, locked-out condition per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank in a properly sized chuck or collet to the manufacturer-recommended clamping depth before operation. When using the through-coolant feature, confirm that coolant pressure and flow rate are within the spindle system specifications before running the program. Inspect the cutting edge and coating condition before each use and replace the bit if chipping or coating wear is observed to avoid workpiece damage.
