The SUMITOMO U103682 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding production environments. Built to wire size 21 (0.1590 inches diameter), the bit features a 135-degree split-point geometry that reduces walking and thrust at entry, and a dual TiAlCr and TiSi coating that extends tool life in abrasive and high-temperature applications. The tapered web configuration adds rigidity and chip evacuation efficiency. At 3.8583 inches overall length with a 1.5748-inch flute and a 3/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank, this is a precision ground tool intended for use by machinists and metalworking professionals on CNC and manual drill presses.
The U103682 is suited for cutting cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon and alloy steels, covering workpiece material codes K, M, P, and S. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and coolant-through capability make it effective in through-coolant spindle setups where chip control and heat management are critical. Typical applications include production drilling on machining centers where consistent hole tolerance and extended run life between tool changes are required. This bit fits workflows demanding close-tolerance output with an h8 diameter tolerance on the drill body.
Designed for use in through-coolant capable drill chucks and toolholders accepting a 3/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suited for machining cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces in the MDW-HGS series application range.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle and coolant system are fully de-energized and depressurized before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet to the recommended engagement depth before running. Do not exceed the rated cutting parameters for the workpiece material, and verify coolant flow is active before beginning a through-coolant drilling cycle.
