The SUMITOMO U102748 is an ER16 series collet designed for use in ER-style collet chucks on CNC machining centers, milling machines, and high-speed spindles. This collet accepts a nominal bore diameter of 0.203 inches with a minimum collet capacity of 0.199 inches, providing a secure grip on round shank tooling within that range. It holds a total indicator runout (TIR) of 0.0005 inches, making it suitable for precision machining applications where tool concentricity directly affects surface finish and dimensional accuracy. Machinists and toolroom technicians install and maintain these collets as standard consumable toolholding components.
ER16 collets are widely used in production and job-shop environments where compact toolholding is required in smaller-diameter spindles. This collet fits any standard ER16-compliant chuck, accommodating drills, end mills, reamers, and other round-shank cutting tools at the specified bore size. It is appropriate for both light finishing cuts and moderate material removal where runout control is a priority. The compact ER16 form factor is common in Swiss-type lathes, high-speed routers, and compact machining center spindles.
Designed for use with any standard ER16-compliant collet chuck accepting the ER16 collet series at a 0.203 inch bore capacity.
Installation and removal of ER collets should be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate ER16 collet nut and spanner wrench rated for the chuck; do not substitute non-rated tools or overtighten by impact methods. Inspect the collet bore and seating taper for chips or wear before each use, as contamination directly degrades runout performance. Collets are consumable components and should be replaced when TIR measurements exceed application tolerances.
