The SUMITOMO U101736 is a right-hand MWLN-style indexable turning toolholder engineered for negative-rake external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It accepts WNMG 432 inserts, held securely by a clamp and pin method that resists movement under interrupted cuts and heavy feeds. The shank measures 3/4 inches by 3/4 inches with an overall length of 4.5 inches, fitting standard tool blocks and quick-change holders in that bore range. A -5 degree lead angle positions the insert for undercutting applications where standard tooling cannot reach. Rated for universal primary workpiece material, it handles steel, cast iron, stainless, aluminum, non-ferrous, and heat-resistant alloys.
This toolholder is suited for job shop and production turning environments where one holder must cover a wide range of workpiece materials. The MWLN geometry and WNMG 432 insert compatibility make it a practical choice for general-purpose OD turning, facing, and undercutting passes on both manual lathes and CNC turning centers. The right-hand cutting direction is the standard orientation for conventional front-tool-post setups. No coolant-through capability means it is best applied in flood or mist coolant setups rather than internal high-pressure coolant systems.
Designed for use with WNMG 432 inserts with a compatible insert size code of WN43. Fits standard 3/4 inch by 3/4 inch square shank tool holders and quick-change blocks of the same bore. No specific machine model compatibility was stated in the product data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts and before mounting the toolholder in the turret or tool post. Torque the clamp screw according to the insert manufacturer's specification for WNMG 432 inserts — do not over-tighten, as this can crack the insert or damage the pin locator. Confirm tool centerline height and lead angle orientation before taking a test cut.
