The SUMITOMO U101362 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the SMD Series, designed for high-productivity metal removal in steel and ferrous workpiece applications. The drill features a 13/16-inch diameter and a 140-degree included point angle, which promotes self-centering entry and reduces thrust force at the cutting edge. The tip is solid carbide with a TiAlCr and TiSi PVD coating applied using the MTL insert geometry configuration. Through-coolant delivery channels direct fluid directly to the cutting zone, extending tool life and improving chip evacuation in deep-hole drilling operations. This drill is installed and operated by machinists and manufacturing technicians working in CNC turning, machining center, or drill press environments.
The U101362 is suited for drilling steel and similar P-category workpiece materials in production machining environments. The replaceable tip design allows the carbide tip to be swapped out without replacing the full drill body, reducing tooling cost per hole in high-volume applications. Through-coolant capability makes it appropriate for deep-hole applications where chip packing and heat buildup are common concerns. The ACX70 grade and PVD coating combination is optimized for steel cutting at elevated feed and speed parameters.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip for SUMITOMO SMD Series drill bodies sized for 13/16-inch diameter replaceable tip inserts. Verify body series and tip seat geometry before ordering.
Installation of replaceable carbide drill tips should be performed by qualified machinists following the machine tool manufacturer and toolholder manufacturer torque and seating procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before tip replacement. Inspect the tip seat on the drill body for debris or damage before seating the new tip. Through-coolant connections should be confirmed leak-free before beginning the drilling cycle.
