The SUMITOMO U101220 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting applications. It measures 5/8 inches (0.6250 inches) in diameter with a 135-degree drill point angle optimized for self-centering entry and reduced thrust on hard materials. The bit carries a dual TiAlCr and TiSi coating that extends tool life and improves heat resistance during high-speed drilling. At 6.2992 inches overall length with a 3.7795-inch flute length and a 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio, this tool is suited for production drilling where rigidity and chip evacuation are critical. It is installed and run by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC and manual drill presses.
This drill bit is intended for use in metal cutting operations on cast iron and steel workpieces. The MDW-GS series is engineered for applications where tool life and dimensional accuracy matter, such as production-floor drilling on ferrous metals. The straight-cylindrical shank at 0.6250 inches diameter fits standard collet chucks and drill chucks designed for that bore size. This is a non-coolant-through design, making it straightforward to apply in setups without internal coolant delivery.
Designed for use in cast iron and steel cutting applications. Primary workpiece material codes K and P per ISO classification. Fits standard straight-cylindrical 5/8-inch collet or drill chuck toolholding systems. Part of the MDW-GS series covering the 0.5000 to 0.6500 inch drill bit diameter range.
This bit is installed by machinists or tooling technicians on CNC machining centers or manual drill presses. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are de-energized and fully stopped before changing tooling. Verify chuck or collet bore matches the 0.6250-inch straight-cylindrical shank before seating. Because this is not a coolant-through design, apply external flood or mist coolant as required by the workpiece material and cutting parameters.
