The SUMITOMO 5VHY212 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding machining applications. It measures 10 mm in diameter with an overall length of 136 mm (5.354 inches) and a flute length of 80 mm (3.150 inches). The 135-degree drill point angle provides a self-centering geometry suited to hard and abrasive workpiece materials. A dual-layer TiAlCr and TiSi coating increases surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in high-speed drilling cycles. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification. This bit is intended for installation and use by machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments.
The 5VHY212 belongs to the Sumitomo MDW-HGS series and is engineered for cutting cast iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, and other ferrous and high-strength alloys. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports deeper hole depths relative to diameter. Coolant-through capability allows internal delivery of cutting fluid directly to the cutting edge, making this bit well suited for through-hole drilling on CNC machining centers where high feed rates and extended tool life are priorities.
Designed for use in standard straight-cylindrical collet chucks and drill chucks accepting 10 mm shank tooling. Rated for cutting cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpiece materials per material codes K, M, P, and S.
This drill bit is installed and operated by machinists and CNC technicians using appropriate tool holders rated for the shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is properly torqued before beginning a drilling cycle. When using coolant-through capability, verify that the coolant supply port on the tool holder is aligned and that system pressure is appropriate for the application. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the coating is degraded or the edge is damaged.
