The SUMITOMO 5VHY207 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding industrial applications. It carries a 9.50 mm (0.3740 inch) cutting diameter and features a multi-layer TiAlCr/TiSi proprietary coating that extends tool life when machining abrasive and hard materials. The 135-degree split point reduces thrust and improves self-centering at entry. Overall length is 136.00 mm (5.3543 inches) with a flute length of 76.00 mm (2.9921 inches). This drill is part of the MDW-HGS series and is sold as a single-piece unit. It is intended for installation and use by machinists and CNC operators working in precision metal fabrication environments.
The 5VHY207 is engineered for cutting steel, stainless steel, and hardened materials, corresponding to workpiece material codes P, M, K, and S. Its 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides adequate chip evacuation for moderately deep holes. The coolant-through design delivers cutting fluid directly to the cutting edge, making it well suited for CNC machining centers where through-spindle coolant is available. It is appropriate for both production drilling and high-tolerance hole-making operations where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses equipped with through-spindle or external coolant, within the MDW-HGS series drill range covering 9.00 mm to 10.00 mm diameters (0.3500 to 0.4000 inch). Compatible with standard straight-shank tool holders accepting a 10 mm (0.3937 inch) shank diameter.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Secure the straight cylindrical shank firmly in a compatible collet or drill chuck before operation, and verify runout with appropriate gauging tools. Ensure through-spindle coolant pressure and flow rate are set per machine specifications before beginning a cut. Do not exceed the drill's rated feed and speed parameters for the target workpiece material.
