The SUMITOMO 5V00159 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding industrial and trade applications. It measures 4.70 mm (0.185 inches) in diameter with a 135-degree split point geometry that reduces walking and lowers thrust requirements at entry. The drill carries a multi-layer TiAlCr/TiSi proprietary coating engineered to extend tool life in abrasive and heat-generating cuts. Overall length is 98 mm (3.858 inches) with a 44 mm (1.732 inches) flute length, placing it in the 5xD flute-to-diameter class. A straight cylindrical shank at 5 mm (0.197 inches) diameter fits standard drill chucks and collet holders. This drill is part of the MDW-HGS series and is sold individually.
Primary workpiece materials for this drill are cast iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, and other ferrous alloys, covering ISO material codes K, M, P, and S. The 135-degree point and TiAlCr/TiSi coating combination is well-suited for production environments where tool life and hole quality in tough materials are priorities. The coolant-through design supports internal coolant delivery, making it appropriate for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and automated lines where through-spindle coolant is available. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians working on steel fabrication or precision component drilling will find this drill applicable to those tasks.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 5 mm straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for CNC machining centers and drill presses equipped with through-spindle coolant. Fits applications within the 4.00 mm to 5.00 mm (0.150 to 0.200 inches) drill diameter range of the MDW-HGS series.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable machine safety procedures. Ensure the shank is clean and seated fully in the collet or chuck before tightening to the chuck manufacturer's specified torque. When using the coolant-through feature, verify coolant pressure and flow rate are within the machine spindle's rated range before running. Discard the drill if chipping, excessive wear, or dimensional deviation in produced holes is observed.
