The SUMITOMO 5KHZW0P is a carbide replaceable tip drill designed for high-performance metal cutting across a wide range of workpiece materials. Built to the ACX80 manufacturer grade, this drill features a 140-degree included point angle and a PVD-applied TiAlCr/TiSi combination coating for extended tool life and heat resistance at the cutting edge. The replaceable tip design reduces tooling cost by allowing tip exchange without discarding the drill body. Through-coolant capability channels cutting fluid directly to the cutting zone, improving chip evacuation and thermal management during deep-hole operations. This drill is part of the SMD series and uses MEL insert geometry.
The 5KHZW0P is suited for drilling operations in ferrous metals, stainless steels, cast irons, and superalloys, as indicated by its universal primary workpiece material classification covering K, M, P, and S material codes. It is a practical choice for machining centers and CNC drilling applications where consistent hole quality and tool longevity are priorities. The replaceable tip system makes it well-suited for production environments where minimizing downtime during tool changes is important.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement tip for use within the Sumitomo SMD series replaceable tip drill system. Compatible with workpiece materials classified under K, M, P, and S material codes per the input data.
Installation of replaceable tip drills is performed by machining technicians on CNC machining centers or manual drill presses with appropriate collet or hydraulic toolholding. Power down and de-energize the spindle before seating or removing the replaceable tip. Ensure the tip interface and pocket are clean and free of chips before torquing the tip into place. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and Sumitomo tooling documentation for proper seating procedure and coolant line connection.
