The SUMITOMO 2000W2B is a steel-body indexable boring bar designed for precision internal diameter boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the BSTJO toolholder style, it accepts TPGT 33 series triangular inserts held in place by a screw-clamp mechanism. The bar features a 1 inch shank diameter, a minimum bore diameter of 1-1/8 inches, and a 12 inch overall length. With a 2-degree lead angle and neutral rake geometry, it delivers consistent chip formation and stable cutting performance across a range of bore depths. This bar is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians working in precision turning and boring applications.
The 2000W2B suits residential shop, production floor, and job-shop environments where accurate internal boring is required on steel, aluminum, and similar materials. The BSTJO series design provides rigidity across the 12 inch OAL, minimizing deflection during deep-bore cuts. With a center-to-cutting-edge dimension of 0.563 inches and a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert, it is well-suited for moderate to medium-diameter bore work. Typical applications include finish boring of bearing bores, housing bores, and similar precision features on turned components.
Designed for use with TPGT 33 series triangular inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and 0.1875 inch compatible insert thickness. Compatible insert shape is triangular. This bar does not support coolant-through delivery.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists. Before mounting or indexing inserts, power down and lock out the machine spindle per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Secure the shank in a properly sized boring bar holder or turret block and verify runout before cutting. Use the correct torque driver for the screw-clamp insert seat — refer to the insert manufacturer torque specification for TPGT 33 screws. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage at each index.
