The SUMITOMO 2000W2A is an indexable boring bar designed for internal diameter machining operations in metal-cutting applications. Built on the BSTJO toolholder style, this bar accepts TPGT 33 triangular inserts secured by a screw-clamp holding method, providing consistent insert positioning and repeatable cutting performance. The shank diameter is 3/4 inches and the overall length is 10 inches, making it a practical reach-in bar for moderate-depth bores. The minimum bore diameter is 1 inch, and the center-to-cutting-edge distance is 0.5 inches. The tool body is constructed of steel and is configured for right-hand cutting with a negative rake angle of -2 degrees and a 2-degree lead angle. Machinists and toolroom technicians working on CNC lathes and boring mills are the primary users of this bar.
The 2000W2A is suited for finish and semi-finish boring in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where TPGT 33 insert geometries are appropriate. The BSTJO series is commonly found in job shops and production environments running turning centers or horizontal boring operations. The 1-inch minimum bore diameter makes it applicable to a range of small-to-mid-size workpiece bores. Coolant-through capability is not included on this bar, so external coolant delivery or flood cooling should be planned during setup. This tool ships as a single unit without inserts included.
Compatible with TPGT 33 series triangular inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and 3/16 inch (0.1875 inches) thickness. Insert holding is via screw clamp. This bar does not accept other insert shapes or sizes outside the TPGT 33 designation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Before mounting the boring bar, confirm the machine spindle is powered down and the turret or spindle is fully locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Secure the 3/4 inch shank in an appropriately sized toolholder or turret station, ensuring adequate clamping length to minimize overhang vibration. Insert torque specifications should follow the insert manufacturer recommendations included with TPGT 33 insert packaging.
