The SUMITOMO 1NHM943 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CC series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI designation CCGT21.50EFC and ISO code CCGT060201N-FC, with a manufacturer grade of AC530U. The insert features a dual PVD coating of TiAlN and AlCrN, marketed under Sumitomo's Super ZX designation, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. A positive rake angle of 15 degrees and the EFC chip breaker geometry support free-cutting action and efficient chip control in finishing and light semi-finishing passes.
This insert is suited for finishing and light semi-finishing of steel and stainless steel components. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard right-hand and left-hand toolholders using the CCGT pocket style. The EFC chip breaker geometry is optimized for lower cutting forces, making it a practical choice when machining thin-walled parts or workpieces where deflection must be minimized. Secondary workpiece material classification is stainless steel (ISO material group M), and the AC530U grade is positioned for high-surface-finish applications on difficult-to-machine alloys.
Designed for use in CCGT-style screw-lock toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch inscribed circle insert with a C clearance code and G tolerance class. Compatible with turning applications on steel and stainless steel workpieces per ISO material group M designation.
Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures applied. Seat the insert firmly in the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or damage before each insert change. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as edge failure can affect workpiece quality and operator safety.
