The SUMITOMO 1NHM935 is a solid carbide turning insert in VCGT style, designed for precision turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a dual PVD coating of TiAlN and AlCrN under the proprietary Super ZX designation, providing heat resistance and extended tool life at high cutting speeds. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a neutral hand orientation. At 0.437 inches in length with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0078-inch corner radius, this insert is suited for fine finishing passes. The EFC chip breaker geometry controls chip formation during light to medium cuts. Licensed HVAC and machining professionals install these in indexed toolholders for consistent surface finish.
This insert is intended for turning applications where tight tolerances and surface quality are critical. The AC530U grade with Super ZX PVD coating is optimized for use on stainless steel workpieces, making it suitable for secondary workpiece material code M applications. It fits into screw-clamped VCGT-style toolholders using the standard ANSI code VCGT220.5EFC and ISO code VCGT110302N-FC. Typical use cases include OD turning, finishing, and contouring on stainless steel and similar materials in precision machining environments.
Conforms to ANSI code VCGT220.5EFC and ISO 13399 code VCGT110302N-FC. Compatible with screw-clamp VCGT-style toolholders accepting a 0.134-inch hole diameter. Secondary workpiece material designation is stainless steel (material code M).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Inspect the insert seat and shim for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and alignment.
