The SUMITOMO 1NHM014 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI designation DCGT32.52MESI and ISO code DCGT11T308MN-S, using a 55-degree diamond insert shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle. The insert is dual-coated with TiAlN and AlCrN via a PVD process under SUMITOMO proprietary designation Super ZX, delivering heat and wear resistance in demanding cuts. The MESI chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
The 1NHM014 is suited for turning operations where tight tolerances and surface finish are critical. Its secondary workpiece material designation is Stainless Steel (M-code), making it well-matched for austenitic and ferritic stainless alloys. The screw-on holding method and DCGT-style geometry work with standard toolholders accepting this insert style. The neutral hand orientation allows use in a range of right-hand and left-hand toolholder configurations. This insert is commonly applied in finishing and light-to-medium roughing passes on difficult-to-machine materials.
Designed for use in DCGT-style screw-on toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 5/32-inch thick, 55-degree diamond insert. Primary application is stainless steel (ISO material group M); secondary materials may be suitable depending on toolholder and machine setup. Verify toolholder clearance code C and tolerance code G compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or use impact tools on insert screws. Inspect the toolholder pocket seating surface for wear or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper contact and dimensional accuracy.
